Flicks in the Sticks: Untouchable

Sarn Village Hall, Newton

The second most successful film of all time at France’s box office, Untouchable charts an unlikely friendship between wealthy, middle-aged tetraplegic Philippe and poverty-stricken Driss, that starts when Driss is hired as Philippe’s live-in carer. Expanding each other’s horizons, they show each other that there are different ways to live. It’s a heartening sign that this moving film has done so well in France, where the divide between rich and ghettoised poor in the banlieu is often pronounced.
