Black Star: Paul Robeson's Transatlantic Exchange Concert

Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff
Reserve tickets

Part of BFI Black Star season

Paul Robeson first visited Wales in 1928 and sang many times with local choirs in Wales, even learning the language to best interpret the music. He was invited to sing for the Miner’s Eisteddfod in Porthcawl in 1957 but due to his left-leaning political activities the US government would not grant him the visa, so instead he made this legendary radiophone broadcast from New York. Taped in New York and lost for decades these tapes were rediscovered by Mike Lewis of the Treorchy Male Choir and released by Sain records.

Free but ticketed
