Macbeth

SYNOPSIS

A theatre performance beamed ‘live’ from the past. Originally commissioned as somewhat of a cultural experiment, T.Gwynn Jones’ translated William Shakespeare’s Macbeth for broadcast live on national television in 1964, an elaborately-filmed studio-bound theatrical performance well before the ‘professional’ Welsh language theatre as we know it was in existence. The film survives and transcends its strange birth because it has been blessed by T.Gwynn Jones’ magnificent Welsh language script and has been shot with a keen director’s eye and the undoubted quality of performance within it carries the message of the play down the decades.
